"Do you know what you're doing after Brandon graduates?"
I'm usually left with a blank stare, or me making up some kind of answer to make it seem like we're not really all that concerned. In reality, it consumes our thoughts, largely dominates our prayers, and is the basis of our fasts. I have spent hours on the computer, looking at listings, and areas in which the opportunities are available. Brandon spends breaks during his school day on the phone, carefully editing the detailed spread sheet he's tracking.
Our brains run nonsense lists: "Aurora, Highlands Ranch, associateship, Oceanside, Dr. Helm, weather, Thousand Oaks, cost of living, family, Dr. Roberta, office space, school districts, buying a home, swimming pools, distance..."
Everyone has an opinion..
"I would never work in California."
"Everyone fails there."
"There are a lot of old people there."
"My friends hate it there."
Then the soft whisper in the temple: "Everything will be okay if you go to California. No need to fear." It wasn't a direction to go to California, but a reassurance that we are not doing wrong by exploring the option.
So, there you have it. No, we don't know what we're doing or where we are going, but we are confident we are doing our part, and we hope to know the answers to all of your (and our) questions soon.
Seriously, though, how can you not want to live here?

That is wonderful Bethany! The temple is amazing. I know a lot of people who like living in California : ).
I totally know what you mean we are in the same boat! And I get all the CA comments too, but I too know it will work out! Oh and the temple is such a great place to be and receive comfort :0)
Those are actually both at the top of our lists for after dental school (well, Allison isn't as into CA as I am but I'm sure I can woo her). If you end up in CO then you will have lived in all of the "C" states. It'd be cool if we ended up near each other. Good luck
Yay, what a tricky time of life. I am happy you are considering CA. And while I know its up to you and Lord where you end up, I'll just put in a good word for Thousand Oaks *nudge nudge*. But no worries, I will visit you guys wherever you end up! Best of luck.
What a beautiful post. It is tough to figure out where to move to and what to do "when you grow up". But trusting in yourself and the promptings of the spirit will always guide you in the best direction.
Good luck and lots of love!
